A woman from Bridgewater has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run incident that left a 75-year-old pedestrian in a wheelchair injured. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, and the Bridgewater Police Department reported the incident.
The victim was found lying on the grass between the road and sidewalk with a damaged wheelchair after authorities responded to the scene near 241 Main St. in Bridgewater at around 9:43 a.m. Chief Christopher D. Delmonte provided a statement confirming that the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
According to an on-site investigation, a maroon SUV or crossover-type vehicle traveling west hit the pedestrian and fled the scene. The West Bridgewater Police Department was immediately notified and described the suspected vehicle.
Later, West Bridgewater police located the vehicle at the intersection of North Main and Matfield Streets. The car displayed damage consistent with the crash. The driver, identified as 61-year-old Bonnie Bowes, was arrested at the scene. Bowes is facing several charges, including leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, OUI-Drugs causing severe bodily injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of property damage, and marked lanes violation.
Bowes is scheduled to appear in Brockton District Court while the investigation into the crash continues. Authorities urge anyone with additional information or camera footage from the area to contact Officer Gino Sergio or Det. Jacob Poulin at 508-697-6118.
